ToolSleep Calculator
Estimate bedtime or wake-up options using sleep cycles and an adjustable fall-asleep time.
Plan bedtime or wake-up time
This sleep calculator works backward from a required wake-up time or forward from a planned bedtime. It shows several cycle-based options and includes the number of minutes you expect to take to fall asleep.
How to use the sleep calculator
- Choose whether you want to wake up at a specific time or plan to sleep at a specific time.
- Enter the clock time.
- Adjust the estimated minutes it takes you to fall asleep.
- Calculate and compare the suggested times, cycle counts and total sleep duration.
How the estimate works
The calculator adds or subtracts complete 90-minute blocks plus your selected fall-asleep time. Sleep cycles vary between people and across the night, so these times are planning estimates rather than measurements of your personal sleep stages.
Prioritize enough sleep
Do not choose a very late bedtime only because it lands on a cycle boundary. Total sleep and a consistent schedule matter. The Sleep Foundation notes that most healthy adults generally need seven to nine hours, although individual needs vary.
When to seek help
This page is not medical advice and cannot diagnose sleep problems. Speak with a qualified health professional if you regularly struggle to sleep, wake gasping, feel excessively sleepy during the day or have other concerns.
Sleep calculator FAQs
Are sleep cycles always exactly 90 minutes?
No. Ninety minutes is a convenient estimate; real cycle length varies by person and during the night.
Does the calculator include time to fall asleep?
Yes. Enter your expected fall-asleep time and the tool includes it in every result.
Should I choose four, five or six cycles?
Compare the displayed total sleep time with your needs and schedule. More total sleep is generally more important than hitting an exact estimated boundary.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is a planning tool based on estimated cycle timing and does not measure or diagnose sleep.
