Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or other browser-supported image and create a smaller JPG copy. The current tool uses a balanced quality setting and processes the image on your device.
How to compress an image
- Select the image you want to reduce.
- Choose Compress and wait for the preview.
- Inspect the result for acceptable detail and clarity.
- Download the compressed JPG.
Quality and file size
Image compression trades some visual detail for fewer bytes. Photographs usually compress well as JPG. Graphics with sharp text, logos or transparency may be better kept as PNG or WebP in a tool that preserves those output formats.
Important output limitation
This version downloads a JPG. Transparent pixels from a PNG or WebP are not preserved in JPG output. Keep your original file and inspect the downloaded image before using it on a website, application form or print project.
Private local processing
The image is decoded, compressed and downloaded in your browser. It is not sent to AlphaToolsKit for processing. Third-party analytics or advertising scripts may still make their own network requests as described in the Privacy Policy, but they do not need the image file for this tool to work.

Which image formats can I select?
The file picker accepts browser-supported image formats, including common JPG, PNG and WebP files. The downloadable result is JPG.
Will PNG transparency be preserved?
No. JPG does not support transparency, so use the original PNG when transparency is required.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The compression work runs locally in your browser.
Why can a compressed image look softer?
Lossy JPG compression removes some image detail to reduce file size. Always inspect the result at the size where it will be used.
